5 Conspiracy Theories that Turned Out to Be True.

This first Conspiracy Theory makes some people think that is is why President John F. Kennedy was killed.

#1
Operation Northwoods

1962-
A proposed "false flag" operation against the Cuban government was drafted by Joint Chiefs of Staff, signed by Chairman Lyman Lemnitzer and sent to the Secretary of Defense.

It called for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) or other U.S. government operatives to commit acts of terrorism against American civilians and military targets in a way to set blame on Cuba.

This would provide a pretext for launching a full-scale military invasion of Cuba and the removal of Fidel Castro.

President John F. Kennedy was said to have rejected the deal.

November 18, 1997
The previously secret document was originally made public.
The plans detailed the were:
"A series of well coordinated incidents will be planned to take place in and around Guantanamo to give genuine appearance of being done by hostile Cuban forces."
"A 'Remember the Maine' incident could be arranged in several forms: a. We could blow up a US ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba..."
"We could develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities, and even in Washington."
"The terror campaign could be pointed at refugees seeking haven in the United States. We could sink a boatload of Cubans enroute to Florida (real or simulated)..."
"Use of MIG type aircraft by US pilots could provide additional provocation. Harassment of civil air, attacks on surface shipping and destruction of US military drone aircraft by MIG type planes would be useful as complementary actions..."

Only one copy of the Northwoods documents has been located, though there were certainly several in existence at one point in time.

#2
Operation Paper Clip (Overcast)

A covert affair run by the newly-formed Joint Intelligence Objectives Agency.
Largely carried out by Special Agents of the Army CIC.

To put the United States a head of Russia in the "Cold War" and "Space Race".
More than 1,600 German scientists, engineers, and technicians, were recruited in post-Nazi Germany and taken to the U.S. for government employment.
It was sanctioned by Harry Truman.
He stipulated that the operation could not recruit former Nazis.
Despite this one rule, many were former members and leaders of the Nazi Party.

The Gulf of Tonkin Conspiracy
August 2, 1962
An international confrontation that led to the United States engaging more directly in the Vietnam War.

The attacked occurred off the coast of Vietnam.
The U.S.S. Maddox fired three warning shots and then engaged in battle. It defeated the torpedo boats.

Four and killing six Vietnamese crew members.
There was no U.S. casualties.
The only damage to the U.S.S. Maddox was a single bullet hole.
August 4, 1962
A second attack, in the same area, occurred was falsely reportted by the National Security Agency.
These events became the precursor to the Vietnam War.
2006
An internal National Security Agency historical study was declassified.
It basically said that the U.S.S. Maddox fired at nothing in the first reported battle.
There were no North Vietnamese ships in the area at that time.
And that the second battle didn't occur at all.
It was reported that the government staged the whole thing, so the U.S. would enter Vietnam and kill as many communists as possible.
200,00 American lives were lost in the Vietnam War.
