Competency Hearing for the Presumed Killer of Ashley Freeman and Lauria Bible

67-year-old Ronnie Dean Busick charged with murder in the 1999 deaths of a northeast Oklahoma couple and the presumed deaths of the couple's 16-year-old daughter and her 16-year-old friend will undergo a mental competency evaluation.

The request was granted Dec. 21.

Busick is charged in the Dec. 30, 1999, deaths of Danny Freeman and his wife Kathy Freeman and the disappearances of their 16-year-old daughter Ashley Freeman and her 16-year-old friend Lauria Bible.

The two teenagers have never been found and are believed to be deceased.

Busick has denied involvement in the case and said he doesn't know where the missing girls are.

The disappearance of Lauria Jaylene Bible and Ashley Renae Freeman, solved?

Did the FBI Know Ahead of Time About The Oklahoma City Bombing?

Did you know that back in July of 2014 there was a trial over evidence and conspiracy theories from the Oklahoma City bombing?

As the trial over documents and videotape the FBI had from the 1995 bombing ended, the man suing the federal government, Jesse Trentadue claimed one of his witnesses had been told not to show up or else.

He said John Matthews, whom he claimed worked as an undercover government operative in the militia movement in the 1990s, had been contacted by an FBI agent and told that he should take a vacation and that if he did testify he should suffer from a case of the "I don't remembers."

Matthews had allegedly known convicted bomber Timothy McVeigh and worked for the government in an operation targeting the patriot militia movement known as "PATCON."

Lawyers for the FBI denied the allegation and said it was Matthews who had contacted them asking how he could get out of testifying. Matthews could not be located to testify, they told the judge.

"This is a serious accusation," Judge Waddoups said.
Federal judge Judge Waddoups admonished the FBI for not properly investigating witness-tampering allegations against the agency, and suggested he will probably appoint a magistrate judge to look into the matter.

The accusation came as the trial over Oklahoma City bombing evidence wrapped up. Trentadue is suing the FBI for a videotape he claims shows a Ryder truck pulling up to the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building on the morning of April 19, 1995, pulling into a stall and two people walking away from it. Then three minutes later the bomb going off.

Trentadue claims that
"It shows two people at the scene and the government says it only shows one,"
"McVeigh and I suspect that second suspect may be one of their undercover guys."

Trentadue filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for the evidence and when it wasn't produced, he sued. The FBI insists the videotape does not exist. They called three retired FBI agents who worked the Oklahoma City bombing investigation to the witness stand who each insisted that there was no tape.

Trentadue introduced into evidence an FBI lead sheet that had been heavily redacted, which claims that the ATF and FBI had "prior knowledge of the bomb"
IT also claims that the agencies had attempted to set up a "sting operation and did not take the bomb threat seriously."
The case reached trial because the judge was not satisfied by the FBI’s previous explanations after the lawsuit was filed in 2008.
The trial stems from Trentadue's overall case against the government over the death of his brother, Kenneth. In 1995, he was picked up in Oklahoma on a parole violation. Jesse Trentadue alleges his brother was mistaken for an Oklahoma City bombing co-conspirator and beaten to death during an interrogation.

The FBI insists Kenneth Trentadue hung himself in his prison cell.

Trentadue had 41 bruises and cuts all over his body.
Then the prison bleached and cleaned out the cell in violation of its own policies. They attempted to cremate the body, only stopping when the same guy suing the FBI basically threatened to sue them if they did not. Then the body was found with all sorts of makeup attempting to cover the bruises and cuts. Then the OKC coroner stated in media interviews that it was not a suicide, but then after having a meeting with some feds, he changed his mind and said it was a suicide. Around the time that Senator Hatch went from calling for hearings on the event to pretending it never happened after also meeting with them.

"The government spent 20 years and who knows how much money to cover up this ugly story," Jesse Trentadue. "And the ugly story is there is no doubt the FBI knew at least four months in advance the Murrah Building was going to be bombed and didn't stop it."

I cannot find the ruling in this case.

Murder or Suicide? Death Of The Gray State Family Pt. 3 The Discovery

January 5th, Rani's school is back in session, which she is absent for.
On January 7th, the Prochnow's son posted on Facebook that he now has the entire funding to move forward with his new home in California.
On January 17th, Collin Prochnow heard the Crowley's dog bark and sees the presents scattered on the Crowley's front steps.
He goes over to straighten them up and peers in the front room window.
He sees what at first he thinks look like mannequins.
Collin goes home and gets his wife Judy and then both go back to the Crowley's and take a better look.
They see three bodies lying inside on the living room floor.
Judy then goes back home and calls 911 from her cellphone.
She tells them it was a murder suicide.
How does Judy automatically know that it's a murder suicide?
Collin goes back home and a few minutes later calls 911 as well.
Police arrive shortly after and notice multiple deceased individuals through the window along with the family's dog running around among the bodies.
Later investigators would say that the family dog, Paleo, scavenged the bodies to stay alive.
Why would the dog do that without first eating the open dog food that was setting in a bag on the floor?
Me personally, i have a few different type of dogs, different sizes and breeds.
One of my dogs is greedy and round, he helps himself to the dog food and tears the side of the bag.
He is smaller than then Paleo.
I have a coon hound, she likes to snag anything she can get off the counter, even if there is food in her dish.
She also likes to get into the garbage.
The Crowley's dog food and garbage were untouched.
The Crowley's kitchen garbage didn't even have a lid on it.
They also had food lying on the counter.
If the family died on Christmas, did the dog really get enough water from the toilets to survive on?
The only fresh tracks in the snow were animal tracks.
They go around to the back of the home and notice the sliding glass door is ajar and not secured by any kind of lock.
Police had to lure the dog outside before they could secure the scene.
That day, at 4:51 p.m., members of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension enter the home.
Investigators found no sign of a struggle or forced entry, even though the sliding glass door was ajar.
A light was on in the dining room; strings of Christmas lights and a synthetic Christmas tree were lit.
Komel was lying on her stomach on the floor near the tree with her arms folded under her.
Both of her hands were missing along with most of her head.
Rani lay on her left side across one of Komel's legs.
Her left arm and hand were missing.
David was on his back next to them with both arms outstretched.
Most of his head was missing.
One of David's gun was found close to his left hand, which was mummified.
David’s DNA was found on the gun and magazine.
David was right handed and his right hand was missing.
Komel had been shot three times in the head, and Rani had been shot once behind her left ear.
There what was supposedly bloody footprints in the kitchen.
The blood was that of Komel's.
A laptop was open on the kitchen counter with Komel's blood on it almost.
When an investigator applied a swab to the keyboard to collect a blood sample, the words
“I have loved you all with all of my heart”
appeared on the screen.
In a window behind it was a playlist that was titled “Ascent.”
It consisted of fifty-three songs, that was presumably meant to run continuously.
Apparently, the batteries on the speakers had died.
In the office was an open notebook with dried blood in the margins with one print identified as David's, the other print was inconclusive.

Written in it was
“Open ‘The Rise’ most recent version,”
and
“Submit to Allah now.”
In the living room, above the couch, “Allahu akbar,” which means “God is great", was written on the wall in Komel's blood. On the floor by Komel, there was a Koran, opened to a prayer of forgiveness.
David didn't believe in the Islamic religion.
He didn't like the way some of the rights for women were so strict.
Did you know that the bullet that killed David was not found that day?
There was never any bullet found with his blood DNA on it.
Around 11:30 p.m. that night, the medical examiner, finally shows up, six our after the BCA entered the home.
Police are suppose to do a sweep of a murder site and secure it.
They are not suppose to touch anything after it is secured until the medical examiner gets there, does their own investigation and releases the bodies.
The medical examiner only stays for 45 minutes and leaves.
This is a very short time and it is virtually unheard of for a medical examiner to take such little time with even one body, let alone three.
On January 18th, just after midnight, the bodies were removed from the scene.
The medical examiner also does the autopsies on the bodies.
Komel was identified from a photograph on the Internet, showing a tattoo on her left wrist of a heart with “All you need” written inside it.
David was identified from tattoos on his left wrist and shoulder.
The day after, Jordan Page, a longtime friend of who had deployed with David, posted on Facebook:
"The film was about to start production with a $30 million budget from a major Hollywood studio."
On January 19th, David's family is interviewed by detectives.
The same day Captain John Burrell sends a press release to 9 emails in local media about the Crowley case.
The email is titled
"Pressed suspicious deaths."
Also later in the day, one of the neighbors of the Crowley's report suspicious activity at the Crowley home.
A GMC truck with army paint on it, belonging to a friend of David's, Chris Klein, is parked in the driveway.
Police contact Danny Mason states that he was just David's friend and he was not legally involved in David's movie, which is false.
Later that night, Chris Klein, Mason Hendricks, as well as David's dad and brother are at the Crowley's house.
They notice a bullet hole in the ceiling by the door in the living room.
Investigators somehow missed this bullet hole in the initial search.
In the attic they found a bullet with David's touch DNA only.
Also, the house is a bio-hazard at this point and the professional cleaners are not done with it yet.
Why are there people in the house?
The next day, the professional cleaners find a bullet fragment under neath the living room rug.
The police come back and take photos of the bullet fragment.
On January 20th, Mike Puccini publishes the rough cut of The Rise on YouTube with Sean Wright's tax problems included.
On January 22, 2015, on of Sean Wrights friends leaves comment on Sean's Facebook page about a upcoming get together stating,
"No women allowed per Sharia Law."
Sharia Law or Islamic law is a religious law forming part of the Islamic tradition.
Many claim sharia law encourages domestic violence against women.
It depends how the law is interpreted.
Penalties for breaking the Sharia.
-A Muslim who becomes a non-Muslim is punishable by death
-A non-Muslim who leads a Muslim away from Islam is punishable by death.
-A non-Muslim man who marries a Muslim woman is punishable by death.
The group Anonymous claim that the Crowley's were murdered and that David was one of them.
January 23rd, the medical examiner officially rules Komel and Rani's deaths as homicides and David's death as a suicide.
Did you know that David did an interview sometime before he died and said that he would never ever commit suicide.
He also said that he knew doing Gray State, would give him a target on his back.
What i want to know is, where is all of David's blood.....

Murder or Suicide? Death Of The Gray State Family Pt.2 2014 Timeline

In early 2014, David wrote on social media,
"After two years of trying to extract the Gray State story, I think I may have finally done it."
In the first half of 2014, David began traveling to Hollywood in search of getting a deal for his movie.
He was weary of those in Hollywood, but he also understood that making his script into a movie was going to require collaboration.
He was trying to navigate the tangles of Hollywood without compromising his artistic vision.
This is also where he begins a journal.
May 21st, 2014, David, Komel and Rani arrived in Texas to visit Komel's family.
They traveled from Minnesota in a black Toyota Corolla.
On May 22nd of 2014, Komel and David fly from Texas to Los Angeles for their sixth anniversary.
David and Komel fly back to Texas to meet back up with Rani.
Monday May 26th, the Crowleys begin their drive back home, this time Komel's father's car, an Acrua that he bought for Komel.
On June 13th, 2014, Komel cashed in her 401k.
David finally get a deal in the works, which him and Komel kept pretty much a secret.
Komel did tell friend that David "got a multimillion-dollar movie deal."
And in late September  of 2014, David allegedly boasted to his brother Dan about how he'd soon be flying "to L.A.... for final negotiations with producers" and "he was going to be a millionaire by the end of the year."
David and Komel were looking at houses in California to move into.
David was becoming distrusting of some of those who worked with him and David told those he distrusted that there was no deal in the works.
He disbanded his Bullet Exchange company and sold some of the props.
David also sent Danny Mason forms for Danny to relinquish his rights to the Gray State, so David could move forward.
Until Danny signed the papers, which he never did, a Gray State would be at a stale mate.
They were playing a cat a mouse game for the rights of Gray State and also The Rise.
Did you know that David's Gray State script was worth 30 million dollars?
That is how much the deal he struck was worth.
In August of 2014, Rani's fifth birthday was a little awkward to say the least.
David and Komel were trying to keep the deal that David struck a secret and Danny Mason showed up to the party.
David's cousin Laura Meyer Hokenson attended the princess themed party, which was held in the family's backyard.
Hokenson said that
"They looked like a couple very much in love,"
"They were all about family and he seemed like a person who, professionally, was about to enter into a time when his life's dreams were about to come true."
Komel's mom was diagnosed with cancer earlier in 2014 and Komel disapproved of the mom using chemotherapy.
On August 23rd, David and Komel attended David's high school reunion.
Komel also begins a journal that night.

Sometime in the last week of August, Dan Jr. did something to throw a wrench in his and David's relationship, which Dan Jr. said he sorry for.
In September 2014, David sent an updated movie script to producers.
On September 26th, the producers get back to David and they suggest that his script would be better as a tv series.
He also told followers on Facebook he that he was excited at the prospect of "rebuilding a new, trustworthy team" to work on Gray State, and that for now he was at the helm alone, single handedly cultivating his "baby."
The Facebook post gets deleted the next year in January 2015, after the family is found dead.
On October 1st, 2014, Komel text her sister to tell her happy birthday.
On October 17th, Komel's sister Sidra, texts Komel informing her that she is coming to exchange cars.
On October 18th, a person named that was not David's dad, withdrew $50,000 from an account that only his dad had access to.
On this day, Sidra arrives from Texas.
She tries to text and call Komel, but gets no answer.
Sidra goes to the police department to ask them for advice.
The police call the Crowleys and get no answer, so Sidra goes to their house anyway.
David answered the door and turned Sidra away, but before he does he agrees to switch cars.
He tells Sidra to come back in one hour in order to give him time to clean up the car.
One our later, Sidra comes back and retrieves the other car, then heads back to Texas.
Sidra finds a photo of her, Komel and their mother in the car.
There is a note on the back from Komel reading that she will love them forever.
On October 24th, Dan Jr. posts on his Facebook page, how easy it is to watch gruesome deaths on television.
About this time, Komel began feeling and hallucinating ghosts.
Was someone messing with the family or was Komel actually have this experience?
November 7th, David's dad text David to see if he is alive.
David explains everything is great and that family life has swept them away.
David's dad replied by asking how negotiations for the movie are going.
David lied and told his dad that he walked away from the deal.
At the end of November, David makes his last journal entry.
"i am no one, it is everybody else that is someone."
On November 24th, Komel meets a friend at a coffee shop and makes plans to meet up after the holidays.
A few days after, Komel lets her dietitian license expire, supposedly it is because she is authoring a book.
In early December on Twitter David announced
"The Rise is almost done. I'm serious,"
"She's coming out to be quite the looker; can't wait to show you all, but I have to comb her hair for a few more weeks."
He also wrote about he would be giving it away for free.
Some of David's friends and past collaborators didn't like the idea of that.
For instance, Danny Mason wanted rights to The Rise, if David gave it away for free, Danny couldn't make any money from it.
Sean Wright, a former collaborator, wanted to get The Rise available for the public to purchase.
Sean had an upcoming for his felony tax charges and allegedly was tight on funds.
He pled guilty in March of 2015.
Sean had messaged David on social media demanding David to remove discussions and other information related to his tax problems from The Rise.
On December 17th, 2014, David reached out to producer Jason Allen and asks him if he would like to join the film.
On December 19th, David and Komel go get marijuana from a friend.
It is also the last day of school for Rani for Christmas vacation.
David and Komel picked Rani up from school.
On December 20th, around 2 a.m., a neighbor, Collin Prochnow hears what he perceives as gun shots coming from the Crowley's house.
Collin does not call the police.
This day, Collin's son comes from California to say with the Prochnows.
The next day is the last day of the Crowley's last banking transaction.
David charges over $30 worth of food at SmashBurger.
December 23rd, two attempts to from Komel's phone to her sister's phone go unanswered.
On this day between two and three p.m., the news paper found after the discovery of the bodies in the Crowley's kitchen garbage is delivered.
Sometime before eight o'clock on Christmas Eve, Brent Malay, David's neighbor that lived across the street, was going to shut his blinds when he looked out to see someone staring back.
Malay assumed it was David.
Neither gave a wave and the person disappeared from sight by the time Malay was closing the shades.
Sometime that night, a playlist of 53 songs starts on a loop on David's computer.
December 26th is when the police estimate the family died.
On the 28th of December, David's brother, Dan Jr., supposedly dropped of Christmas presents and a sizable check from their father.
He didn't want to bother David or his family, so he put the check in the mail box and the presents on the porch....

Murder or Suicide? Death Of The Gray State Family Pt.1 The Beginning

The Netflix Documentary A Gray State, paints a picture of a family that went down a twisted spiral with a madman at the helm.
It is an intriguing piece that poses itself as a true depiction of what happened to film maker, writer, army veteran and family man, David Crowley.
In my opinion however, it is like any other Hollywood film, creating it's own narrative and making you see what the creator wants you to see.
Whatever conclusion you draw about David, there is one thing for sure, his wife and child were victims of an awful fate.
The dead can't defend themselves and it is up to the living to make sure justice is served.
So who was David Crowley?
David Timothy Crowley was born on July 7th, 1985 to Kate and Daniel Crowley.
He was the middle child.
When he was little in loved to play kickball with his younger sister Allison.
David wrote this about his neighborhood
"I enjoy being idolized by the little people of our neighborhood,

They'd even cheer when I came outside."
David and his older brother Daniel Jr. had a tremulous relationship, which emanated from Daniel Jr. allegedly bullying David due to Daniel's allegedly closeted gay tendencies.
Tendencies that came to light when Daniel allegedly got into trouble molesting boys at summer camp.
David's life wasn't made any easier.
His mom and dad divorced allegedly due to her alcoholism.
David would make movies with his friends and in high school he wrote and directed his first short film.
Shortly after high school David joined the army.
He wanted to protect his country and was proud to be an american, but soon realized the trials and tribulations of war and the true reality of what government institutions are really like as apposed to how they appear.
He became disillusioned and didn't want to serve again after he finished his tour and payed his dues.
The government had other ideas for him however and called him up for another tour, much to his dismay.
He was at a stop loss.
As a soldier, he set foot in 13 countries, including combat deployments in Iraq and Kandahar, Afghanistan.
He saw some of his friends get blown up by an IED in Afghanistan.
David's cousin Laura Meyer Hokenson said,
"It was obvious he didn't want to talk about the things he saw."

Between tours, David spent his time at a base in Texas, where he met his wife Komel Rasool Alam at a bar.
Komel was described as an amazing woman, full or energy, driven, enthusiastic, vibrant and smiling.
She was beautiful, olive-skinned Saudi Arabia native.
She was born on November 20th, 1986 to Naila and Anjum Alam.
Komel had been raised Muslim in Pakistan and immigrated to the U.S. with her family in 2005.
On May 22nd, 2008, a few weeks after they met, in the shadow of the massive Fort Hood military base, Komel and David exchanged wedding vows before a justice of the peace.
Sometime in 2008, Komel is awarded the Rising Young Professional Award from Baylor University in Texas.
In June 2008, David was discharged from the army.
Their daughter Raniyah, "Rani" for short, was born on August 6th, 2008.
Rani was loved and described as bright light full of energy and perspective.
The three headed moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
David studied film while attending Minnesota School of Business.
In late 2010, David began working on his own script Gray State.
It is a fictional story of societal collapse, pitting the citizenry against a corrupt federal government hell-bent on destroying individual liberties.
David labored long hours to match the words on the page with the scenes from his mind.
His home office was plastered with note cards, a web of plot points and character development connected by different colored strings. David would have marathon writing sessions, ending only when he was satisfied that the product met his high standards.
Komel graduated on October 31st, 2012 from grad school at the University of Minnesota, earning a master's degree in public health nutrition.
Komel's family came to Minnesota to celebrate.
Komel became a dietitian who operated a business called Mind Body Dietitian, specializing in treating eating disorders.
She also had her own home cake business, which she excelled in.
http://cakesdecor.com/KCCakes
As Komel continued to bring home a steady paycheck, while David attempted to pitch in by partnering with childhood friend Mitch Heil, launching two businesses.
One of those businesses was The Bullet Exchange that supplied authentic military and police gear for film prop use.
They also providing training.
The second business was Hot Head Productions, it would make music videos and films.
David and Heil, along with local actor Danny Mason, toiled to bring David's screenplay to life.
They made a Gray State trailer, raising more than $60,000 in production capital through crowdfunding.
In July 2012, the official concept trailer premiered.
It was 159 seconds, starting with
"It happened while we were sleeping."
"When society falls, those who panic die first."
It has scenes with rioting, death squads and people being rounded up by FEMA microchipping people.
In a month, the Gray State trailer scored around 200,000 views. That number steadily began skyrocketing into the millions.
Less than a month after the Gray State trailer's release, David flew to Tampa to speak at the Ron Paul Festival.
David called the trailer "investor bait" with infinite commercial viability for Hollywood backers.
He said the work was part resume, part marketing tool, and part vision statement.
David wanted to turn the trailer into a featured movie.
He said it would require tens of millions in capital and he's of the belief that
"no Hollywood studio is going to back this film."
He was partially right.
He died before his vision could come to fruition.
In late 2013, the Crowleys were settling into their new home on Ramsdell Drive in Apple Valley.
Komel had quit her dietitian job and was now six months into running her own home-based small business, providing holistic counseling and nutrition service.

David plunged into rewriting the feature's script as well as embarking on a side project called The Rise.
The Rise is a documentary to the fictional work, full of interviews Americans who feared for their country's future.

The Man Who Owns JonBenet's Tricycle Thinks It's They Key To Everything.

A Colorado collector, fascinated with the crime, found JonBenet’s abandoned pink tricycle.
He then set off on a bizarre voyage of discovery and now is offering new theories.
Andrew Novick was living in Boulder, Colorado, when the six-year-old girl was found murdered in her family’s basement in 1996.
Novick began walking by the large house, abandoned by John, Patsy and their nine-year-old son Burke within weeks of JonBenet’s death.
Their speedy departure to Atlanta raised a lot of questions.
The family never returned, appointing movers to pack up their possessions.
Her tricycle was left abandoned outside the house.
Novick took ownership of the  trike, along with a packet of popcorn and an oversized candy cane which had decorated the front lawn.
He took the tricycle to psychics to see what they had to say.

Novick has made a documentary about the Ramsey ‘memorabilia’ he now owns.

There have been theories pointing the finger at everyone from the parents, with Patsy’s writing appearing to match the ransom note, to the odd “Santa Claus” Bill McReynolds, to a man named Michael Helgoth who later took his own life, and owned a pair of Hi-Tec boots that seemed to match a footprint left in the basement.

In December 2016, a series of documentaries tried to provide answers to the cold case that still has everyone stumped.
The Case of: JonBenet Ramsey by CBS pointed the finger at her brother Burke, with forensics experts suggesting he hit her over the head before his parents covered it up by tying a garotte around the girl’s neck.

Burke strongly denied the accusation he harmed his sister, saying he suspected a pedophile who stalked child beauty pageants and denouncing the “false and unprofessional television attack” riddled with “lies, misrepresentations, distortions and omissions”.
He sued the network in a $750 million lawsuit, which could go to trial late next year or in 2020.

There have long been claims of errors by law enforcement in properly searching the home, and a failure to fully investigate by the District Attorney.

A housekeeper recollected him smearing feces over her walls, possessions and bed.

“There’s a kind of a spitefulness going on there, a very ugly spitefulness.”

Did Burke get Jealous over JonBenet's new bike that replaced the tricyle?

“Our culture is obsessed with unsolved crimes,”
said Novick
“I don’t think it will go away. I think it will go on for as long as it remains unsolved.”

He Says He Loves His Family, Then Why Did He Hire a Hitman?

What made Thomas Barlett want to murder his family?
Thomas Bartlett "Bart" Whitaker was born December 31, 1979 to Kent and Patricia Whitaker.
He was never involved in anything violent before.
He was close to his family.
Thomas attended Clements High School.
He had to leave as a result of burglaries he had committed with other students.
Thomas was then evaluated by a psychologist.
The psychologist stated that he was Experiencing the clinical symptoms of a delusional (paranoid) disorder.
It is a generally rare mental illness in which the person has delusions, but with no accompanying prominent hallucinations, thought disorder, mood disorder, or significant flattening of affect.
Delusions are a specific symptom of psychosis.
Thomas had previously recruited others in a plot to murder his family in 2001 which ended up being aborted.
After high school he was given several luxury vehicles by his parents.
They also paid for his tuition at Baylor University and Sam Houston State University.
They bought him a lakeside townhouse in Willis, Texas and a $4,000 Rolex watch was given to him as a graduation present.
He also had access to an $80,000 trust fund from his grandparents.
He had dropped out of university but did not notify his parents.

On December 10, 2003, Thomas told his family that he had just taken his final exams and would soon be graduating from Sam Houston State University.
They drove to the nearby Pappadeaux restaurant in Stafford for dinner to celebrate.
Chris Brashear, Thomas' roommate, was dressed in black with a ski mask.
He had entered the Whitaker family home, taken Kevin's gun and ammunition from a locked box in his room, staged a burglary, and then waited near the front door for the Whitaker family to return home.
Steven Champagne, Thomas' co-worker and neighbor, waited outside the restaurant for the Whitaker family to leave and followed them back to the family home where he waited in his car near their house.
Thomas said that he needed to collect his cell phone from his parked Yukon.
Kevin,Thomas' little brother, entered the family home first and reportedly smiled when he saw the masked Brashear.
Brashear shot Kevin once through his chest and he fell to the floor. Patricia screamed "Oh God, no" and she was also shot in the chest and fell to the floor.
Kent rushed in and was shot in the shoulder with the bullet shattering his humerus.
Thomas then ran inside and staged a struggle with Brashear, getting purposefully shot in his left arm.
Brashear then exited through the Whitakers' back door and jumped the fence into the rear neighbor's yard, where Champagne collected him.
Kevin died within minutes of being shot.
Patricia died shortly after being airlifted by Life Flight service on the way to Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Thomas told first responders that he thought the gunman was black.
Kent survived the murder attempt and was airlifted to the hospital.Thomas fled to Mexico in 2004
He lived there for over a year under the false name of Rudy Ríos.

In 2005, Champagne went to police and confessed to assisting in the murders.
He revealed that the plan was for him to watch the Whitakers eat from his car in the restaurant parking lot, while Chris Brashear, hid in Thomas' SUV outside the home.
When he knew they were headed back to the house, Brashear used the security code that Thomas had given him, enter.
Champagne watched from a nearby street.
Not long after the gunshots went off, Brashear hopped in Champagne’s car and they sped off.
On September 15th, a capital murder warrant was issued against Thomas.
Cooperating with US authorities, Mexican authorities arrested Thomas under immigration charges.

In September 2005 Thomas was handed over to US authorities at the border town of Laredo, Texas, and was arrested for capital murder.

At his trial in March 2007, prosecutors alleged that Thomas was responsible for the murders, because he played the leading part in the conspiracy.
He was offered and  refused a plea bargain by the District Attorney in return for his admission of guilt.
He was tried for capital murder.
Steven Champagne, claimed that Thomas had wanted his family dead so he could capitalize on a million-dollar life insurance payout, which Thomas denied.
Thomas said that the only life insurance policy the family had was for $50,000 on his father's life and claimed that a mental disorder, exacerbated by drug abuse, caused him to want have his family killed.
Kent Whitaker had already forgiven his son for his part in the murders.
He wanted forgiveness instead of vengeance.
Kent tried to persuade the jury not to deliver a death sentence, but the jury decided to convict Thomas capital murder.
Chris Brashear received a life sentence in a plea bargain worked out with prosecutors.
Steven Champagne agreed to testify for the prosecution in return for a 15-year sentence.
Thomas appealed his death sentence on the grounds of the ineffectiveness of his trial counsel, prosecutorial misconduct, the arbitrariness of the death penalty punishment and the cruelty of the lethal injection, in violation of the eighth amendment to the U.S. constitution prohibiting cruel and unusual punishment.
In April 2017, his appeal against prosecutorial misconduct was dismissed by the Court of Appeals.
On November 1, 2017, his death warrant was signed,  ans his execution was scheduled for February 22, 2018.
Thomas stated that his father, Kent, would have been re-victimized by his execution.
Kent wrote to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles asking for clemency for his son, and the Chairman of the Board met with him.
The Board unanimously recommended clemency to Governor Greg Abbott.
In a rare decision, on February 22, 2018, 45 minutes before the scheduled execution at 6 pm, Thomas had his death sentence commuted to life imprisonment without parole by Governor Greg Abbott.
The governor noted that Thomas had,
"Voluntarily and forever waived any and all claims to parole in exchange for a commutation of his sentence from death to life without the possibility of parole".

Hania Aguilar's rape and murder could've been prevented.

Michael Ray McLellan, the man accused of Hania's death, raped a woman at knife point back in 2016.
Using a federal data base in 2017, the North Carolina state crime lab discoverd a rape kit that had been sent in the previous year.
It matched McLellan's DNA, which was already in the system due to his troubled past.
At some point the results fell through the cracks and no one did anything about it.

They were great people, they had a lot of friends, they had strong family ties.
They were neighbors of Daniel Tavares Jr.
Daniel Tavares Jr. was 44 when he was released from prison in Massachusetts in June 2007 after serving 16 years for manslaughter for the 1991 stabbing death his mother.
Massachusetts corrections officials could have kept Tavares behind bars for nearly a year longer had they filled out paperwork documenting his assaults on others in the prison.
Authorities also failed to turn him over to the Florida Department of Corrections on an outstanding warrant or to immediately notify Washington state law-enforcement officials when they learned he had moved.
After meeting a woman through an online-inmate pen-pal service, Tavares married her upon his release and moved to Graham, Pierce County, where they lived in a trailer on property owned by her family.
Tavares said he went to collect a $50 debt from Brian Mauck for a tattoo on Saturday morning Nov. 17, 2007.
He became upset when Mauck insulted him and said he wasn't going to put up with being called a name after spending 20 years in prison.
He shot Brian in the face with a .22-caliber handgun.
Beverly Mauck witnessed her husband's killing and tried to run away.
Tavares chased her down and shot her in the head.
He he then dragged her body to where her husband was lying and  placed her body over his.
He covered them both with a blanket because "he respected them." Tavares  bloody palm print  was found on the front door of the Mauck's home.
Shoe prints that match the unique tread design of a pair of shoes owned by Tavares were also found.
Tavares initially told investigators he heard gunshots while he was in bed with his wife at their home.
He also described two men and a red truck he said he saw outside.  Daniel Tavares was forbidden to have a gun as a condition of his parole.
Taveres' wife, Jennifer, was arrested and charged with rendering criminal assistance, a gross misdemeanor.
She told detectives that her husband was with her at the time the Maucks were killed.
She later admitted to investigators that her husband was gone for about 20 minutes and he told her what he'd done.
She also told detectives that her husband threw the murder weapon off a cliff.
The Maucks were found dead in the living room of their home, with three close-range gunshot wounds to each of their heads.
In February, in 2008, Tavares was sentenced to life in a Washington state prison after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated first-degree murder.
In 2015, Taveres was also sentenced to life in prison for a 27-year-old Fall River cold case.
Gayle Botelho, 32, disappeared in October 1988.
Her body was discovered buried in the backyard of a home Tavares previously lived at in 2000.
